More information
Pvt Harry S. Hartenstine enlisted on 17 February 1942 at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. His younger brother, Roy Hartenstine Jr, was killed in action less than two months later on 7 October 1944, and his name is commemorated on the Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery.
His sister Helen remembers this about her older brother: "He was the oldest of 12 children and he sent home money to help the family. Since Roy Jr's remains were declared non-recoverable, my mother always said that it would be unfair and not right to bring home one brother without the other. This is why Harry remained in Belgium."
On the picture he poses with his brother Roy.
