William Caldwell was a chauffeur.He enlisted at Fort McClellan, Alabama on 21 April 1942.
A lady from the Resistance of Erquelinnes, Belgium and owner of Hotel Casino, bought a zinc coffin for his remains after which he was initially buried at the cemetery of Jeumont, France. His grave was marked with the information on his dog tags. In January 1945 he was disinterred and rebuired in a temporary grave at Ardennes Cemetery on 8 February 1945.
After the Cemetery was given a permanent status and after he was disinterred a second time, he was given his final resting place in March 1949.
