1st Lt William L. Hart Jr. graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School, Phoenix Union High School and was employed by the Union Oil Company here 10 years before entering the service. While attending high school he was a carrier for the Arizona Republic. He entered the U.S. Army on January 29, 1941 being assigned to the 158th Infantry at Fort Sill, Okla., was transferred to Camp Barkley, Tex., then, after Pearl Harbor, to Panama. While in Panama he left the 158th - The Arizona National Guard - to enter officers candidate school, graduating as a second lieutenant of infantry at Fort Benning, Ga. From there he went to Camp Roberts, Calif., as instructor, and after a year was sent to Camp Adair, Ore., then to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and later to Fort George G. Meade, Md.
