S/Sgt Louis Kaman attended Central High School and worked for the Studebaker Company.

He enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 14 November 1941. He was sent overseas in September 1943.

He was reported wounded in action on 2 August 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart medal a first time.
