S/Sgt. Pettit was slightly wounded in France, August 15th, and was back in action August 28th. He was seriously wounded September 17th and passed away three days later, probably at a field hospital in Germany. He received his education at the Thomas School and Eastern High School, Detroit. He was employed by the Fruehauf Trailer Co. in Detroit when he was inducted into the Army, Feb. 3, 1942. He received his training at Camp Polk, La., California and Camp Pickett, Va,. and he has been overseas since a year ago last August.
