1st Lt John B. Kane graduated from Marist College, where he was cadet major in the R.O.T.C. Corps in 1938

He enlisted in Fort McPherson Atlanta, Georgia on 11 July 1941. He was stationed at Camp Wheeler and attended Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, where he received his commission on 21 August 1942.

He died in an English hospital from wounds received in Normandy on D-Day.

His brother, Joseph N. Kane, is buried next to him,

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Cambridge, England.

His brother Richard was taken prisoner by the Germans on 4 March 1945 and escaped. Recaptured, he escaped again as he was being marched to another camp farther inland.

he is remembered at the Westview Abbey mausoleum in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.
