Edward W. L. Ritter was employed at the Kingsburry Ordnance plant before he enlisted on 21 January 1944. He received his training at Camp McClellan, Alabama and Camp Meade, Maryland before going overseas in June 1944.

His remains were first buried in Zwickau, Germany.
