Sgt Daniel J. Stransel entered active service on 18 August 1943.
He was awarded his first Purple Heart after he was wounded on 16 December 1944.
On the 30th of March, 1945, Co. E. 36th Armd Inf Rgt, was on a mission of closing the Ruhr pocket and intended destination was the juntion with 9th Army at Paderborn, Germany.
The company was split in two groups by enemy action on the night of 30 March 1945. That night and early next morning of the 31 March 1945 when the company regrouped and started toward Paderborn, Germany, Sgt Stransel was missing his last known whereabouts was the heavily wooded area near Hamborn, Germany.
His remains were recovered and buried at the military cemetery Margraten on 5 June 1945.
