2nd Lt Harley P. Meek was inducted into the army in June 1941.

During the attack on Cherain, Belgium on 15 January 1945, the forward observer tank was knocked out by anti-tank fire in which 2nd Lt Meek was riding. He was a forward observer and was killed by mortar fire while outside the tank after it had been knocked out.

He is remembered at the Stoltz Cemetery in Richland County, Illinois.
