S/Sgt Joseph R. Zurenda attended West Hazleton High School for four years and was a weaver at the Duplan Silk Company before he enlisted in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania on 15 February 1943. He was sent overseas in August 1944.He was killed by artillery shell fragments to his head.
