Pvt Byron M. Dehoney Jr. graduated from Central High School and attended State College for one year before he joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Springfield, Missouri on 23 April 1942.

After basic training at Fort Leavenworth and Fort Leonard Wood, he was sent to the Radar School at Reabody State College, Tennessee.

He was sent overseas on 27 August 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.

His brother Ernest I. Dehoney is remembered on the Tablets of the Missing at the East Coast Memorial, New York.
