Pfc Harvey R. Battersby attended high school for four years and was employed by Rohm & Haas in Bristol before he enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 15 February 1943.He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his chest and arm.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
