Pvt Emory R. Miles attended high school for two years and was employed at the Moschmeyer-Richards Silver Company before he joined the U.S. Army Reserve at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on 3 December 1942.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
