Sgt Elmer R. Berry attended college for one year and was employed as a fireman in the Jamestown Fire Department.He enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 29 February 1944 and was went overseas 7 October 1944.
He is also remembered at the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Lakewood, Chautauqua County, New York.
The Jamestown Fire Department dedicated a new fire station in his honor. He was the only fireman from the department who was killed of 31 who served.
