Sgt John J. O’Boyle Jr. attended high school for two years and was employed by the Pennsylvania Transformer Company before he enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 15 February 1943. He was sent overseas in July 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
