Pfc Walter C. Lenktis attended high school for four years and was employed at the Knowlton Hat Factory before he enlisted in Boston, Massachusetts on 28 February 1941.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
