Pvt Frederick J. Sherman attended high school for one year and was employed at the General Electric Company before he enlisted in Syracuse, New York on 1 December 1943.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
