Pfc Fayette R. De Graffenreid worked as a carpenter before he enlisted at Fort Logan, Colorado on 8 April 1944.Pfc De Graffenreid was first married to Lena Jane Wodke and they had a son Fayette. He remarried Alice Myrle Switzer in 1940. Lena Jane also remarried, and when Fayette De Graffenreid Jr. entered the military service, he adopted his stepfather's name Galemore.
