Sgt Donald C. Cole graduated from Friendship Central High School in 1941 and attended college for one year.

He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 20 November 1942. He was selected for Army Specialized Training Program ( ASTP) and studied engineering at Alabama Polytechnic Institute in, Auburn, Alabama.

Sgt Cole is remembered at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Friendship, Alleghany County, New York.
