S/Sgt Leonard G. Carter attended college for two years and was employed at the U.S. General Land Office before he enlisted in Portland, Oregon on 13 November 1942.

He was killed by small arms fire to his stomach.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
