S/Sgt Francis G. Casey attended high school for four years and was a welder and flame cutter before he volunteered for the Army of the United States in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: He was killed 19 November during a daylight offensive against the enemy in France. As acting platoon leader, he wiped out an enemy position which was halting the advance, then railed his men against another hostile strongpoint. Sgt. Casey died in the field of wounds received during this action.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
