Cpl Paul J. Zimmerman graduated from Milton High School in 1942 where he played football. He was employed by the Shippers Car Line Corporation.He enlisted on 25 February 1943. He received basic training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia and extensive training at Fort Benning, Georgia. After maneuvers in Mississippi, he reported to Fort George G. Meade from which he was sent overseas on 12 October 1944.
His brother Henry was serving with the 101st Airborne Division in Germany at the time of his death.
Both pictures were taken in high school in 1942.
