Pfc Richard F. Alderson graduated from Newport High School in 1943.

He was selected for the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) and studied at Iowa State College until the program was disbanded. He was sent overseas in September 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
