Pfc William A. Colbert enlisted in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on 15 February 1943.

He died of wounds, sustained by artillery shell fragments in his chest and liver and of pneumonia. The exact date when he was reported wounded in action and the location where he died is not known.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
