Pfc Charles H. Merlo was employed at the McQuay-Norris Manufacturing Company before he enlisted at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on 4 May 1944.He was killed by artillery shell fragments.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand-Failly, France.
