More information

Capt Reed L. Seely was a graduate of Berwick High School and Millard School, Washington D.C.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: On 17 February 1945, during fierce house-to-house fighting in Saarlouis-Roden, Germany, Capt Seely, fearlessly braving intense hostile automatic weapons and rocket fire, moved along through a heavily mined area in order to make a personnal reconnaissaince. He then led his company against bitterly defended enemy fortified positions, moving from man to man and fearlessly exposing himself to the withering enemy fire in order to direct the action of his troops. Inspired by this heroic leadership, his men moved forward and reduced the enemy positions, allowing the rest of the battalion to advance and secure its objective. Allthough Capt Seely was killed the following day by an enemy shoe-mine, his dauntless courage and supreme devotion to duty will live on as an inspiration to his men.
