Ernest Delaney worked at a variety of farms in the local community and also sold watermelons at a farm stand.

He volunteered for the army of the United States at fort Des Moines, Iowa on 24 april 1942.

He was killed in action nine weeks after his brother Harold. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery.
