Pvt Matt Torok joined the Regular Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 4 December 1940. He served in Iceland from April 1942 until July 1943 and was sent to Europe in September 1944

His parents were born in Hungary.

At the time of his death his brother Alex was serving in Germany.
