Sgt Mitchell T. Yowell joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Lexington, Kentucky on 3 June 1942. He trained at Camp Wolters, Texas, from where he was transferred to the University of Kentucky for officer's training for two years. He however withdrew from the latter courses. He was sent overseas in November 1944.

Sgt Yowell is remembered at the Cemetery of Hustonville, Lincoln County, Kentucky.
