At the age of sixteen James Freeman was employed by Mathews Mill and went from there to Glenn Martin Aircraft Plant in Baltimore, Maryland., where he worked for 10 months before joining the Maritime Training School at St. Petersburg, Florida. Pvt Freeman arrived at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on 21 April 1944.
