Capt. Seth S. Botts was awarded the Silver Star Medal three times for gallantry in action in connection with combat operations against the enemy, the third time posthumously. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross Medal posthumously for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy on 22 November 1944.

He was killed by German mortar fire at the command post of L Company, when he visited Capt Ritter, the commanding officer of L Company. The intersection of the N 658 and the N 692 was nicknamed "Paratroop Crossroads''.
