T/Sgt. John D. Kane graduated from Chelsea High School in 1934 with high honors. He was employed by the Postal Department before he entered the service.
T/Sgt Kane was wounded in both North Africa and Normandy. During the battle for Mateur, Tunisia, he captured and destroyed a German machine gun nest and saved a large portion of his company from destruction. For this outstanding feat of bravery, he was awarded the Silver Star Medal.
