Pfc Ernest Wilhoit was a farmer before he enlisted in Louisville, Kentucky on 7 January 1944.After G Company attacked German fortifications in the vicinity of Schevenhutte, Pfc Wilhoit was reported missing in action, though the exact circumstances of his loss are unknown. Hostile presence in the area inhibited search efforts at the time, and attempts to locate of identify his remains after the war were unsuccessful.
Pfc Wilhoit was officially declared death one day and one year after he was reported missing in action.
