Pvt George A. Monfils enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 15 May 1944. He worked as an attendant at a filling station or a parking lot before he enlisted. He joined the 1st Infantry Division, 26th Infantry Regiment, probably as a replacement after the Division laid siege to Aachen (Germany).
