T/4 James E. Mc Cord was graduated from Hapeville High School and attended Georgia Evening College. Before entering the army he was employed by the Atlanta Paper Company.

T/4 James E. Mc Cord enlisted at Fort Mc Pherson, Atlanta, Georgia on 28 January 1943. He went overseas to England in October 1943, when the Allied armies were going through France and entering Germany. He asked for active combat duty and had special infantry training in France and Belgium.

He is remembered in Hapeville, Fulton County, Georgia.
