More information

Capt. George W. Arnott attended Cambridge Union School, and later went to the University of North Carolina at Raleigh, North Carolina.

He joined the Army in 1940 and was commissioned a First Lieutenant in November 1941.

During the invasion of North Africa on 8 November 1942 he was in the first group of American soldiers to land at Oran, Algeria.

In February 1943, while in Tunisia, Lt Arnott was promoted to the rank of captain.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery at Gafsa Cemetery, Gafsa, Tunisia.

Since Capt Arnott was permanently interred in Luxembourg, there might have been an issue with identifying his remains. One of the places they sent to identify remains was at Ardennes Cemetery in Belgium, and once identified it could be the case the remains were buried at Luxembourg Cemetery.
