Pvt Harlan A. Crafton enlisted in Indianapolis, Indiana on 9 September 1944.

After training at Fort McClellan, Ala., he was sent overseas in February 1945. Pvt Crafton was accidentally shot as he and a fellow-soldier were examining a captured enemy weapon. He left behind his wife Katherine and two young children, James, age four years and Sharon, age 11 months.
