More information

Sgt Carl A. Greise enlisted in Cincinnati, Ohio on 4 January 1943.

As a teen, he emigrated to the U.S. from Germany with his family. He graduated from Withrow High School Cincinnati, Ohio (Madisonville) and from Central Academy of Commercial Art in June 1940. In July 1940, he was employed as a commercial artist in Chicago.
He married Catherine M. Littmann Aug. 29, 1942. He trained at Fort Thomas, Camp Robinson, Camp Fannin and was at Fort Meade prior to shipping out. A newspaper article mentions he was an instructor at Camp Fannin, TX. He was promoted to Sergeant at Camp Fannin. He was shipped out in August 1944.

In a letter from the Army Effects Bureau, Carl’s widow was asked if she wanted to be sent her husband’s wallet, as it was mangled by the shrapnel that killed him and would be a “distressing” reminder of the loss of her husband.

Sgt Carl A. Greise First buried at the Temporary Cemetery of Henri-Chapelle in Block H, Row 7, Grave 133.
