Pfc Carl J. Anderson attended St. Mary's Institute and was a newspaper boy for the The Recorder.He enlisted on 4 September 1943 in Albany, New York. He trained at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma and Camp Phillips, Kansas. He was sent overseas in April 1944.
Pfc Anderson was wounded 7 December 1944 and retuned to duty in February, 1945. This earned him his first Purple Heart.
