Pvt Martin W. Blanch attended high school for two years before he enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 23 July 1943.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his stomach.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.
