Sgt Smith H. Cravens attended high school for four years before he enlisted in Peoria, Illinois on 17 June 1942.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his chest and thigh.

He is remembered at the Glendale Cemetery in Laura, Peoria County, Illinois.
