Pfc Mike J. Toat attended high school for one year and was employed at the Windsor Powerhouse Coal Company before he enlisted in Clarksburg, West Virginia on 21 October 1942.

He was killed by small arms fire to his neck.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.
