Pfc Julian E. Hostbjor attended college for two years and was employed at the American District Telegraph Company before he enlisted in Portland, Oregon on 2 August 1943.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.

A Memorial Plaque was erected in the First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Portland, Oregon.
