Pfc Lewis E. Wood Jr. attended high school for two years and was a delivery boy at the Grand Union Warrensburg, New York before he enlisted in Albany, New York on 2 July 1943.

He was reported seriously wounded in action in France on 15 November 1944, caused by artillery shell fragments in his stomach and buttock and hip. He died four days later.
