T/Sgt John E. Malloy enlisted in Wilkes Barre on 17 June 1942, with a District Ten group and trained at Camp Pickett in Virginia, Camp Blanding in Florida and was on maneuvers in Tennessee and Arizona, before going to Camp Phillips, Kansas, from where his division went to England in April.
He was born in Freeland and spent all his life on the North Side. He was graduated from St. Ann's High School in June, 1938, and was employed as a clerk at the Freeland A & P Market before going to Chester early in 1942 to work for the Sun Oil Co.
He was a member of St. Ann's R.C. church, Freeland, and of the Catholic Youth Organization.
A brother, Cpl James Malloy was a member of the 31st Infantry Division and served on Morotai Island, Netherlands East Indies. His brother, Edward, received a medical discharge from the Army in 1943, after 15 months services. Another brother, Paul, preceded him in death March 26th, 1940.
