Pvt William E. Garrett attended Mattoon High School for two years and was employed in the car department of the Big Four Railroad before he enlisted in Peoria, Illinois on 8 May 1943. He was sent overseas in March 1944.He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
