Pfc Ivan R. Wellington Jr. graduated from Fletcher High School in 1942 where he was the valedictorian of his class. He was attending St Lawrence University in Canton, New York when enlisted at Camp Blanding, Florida on 13 May 1943.

He is remembered at the H. Warren Smith Memorial Cemetery in Jacksonville Beach, Duval County, Florida.
