On 29 August 1944 the Second Battalion was in reserve, protecting the supply routes, the right flank and mopped up when necessary. The Battalion was sent north-east from Gaillon against Condécourt. They met no resistance until they came down a forward slope one-quarter mile west of the town. Company F and Company E were leading, with Company E on the right and somewhat ahead of Company F.Pvt Ernest G. Dierks is remembered at Greenwood Cemetery East in Tallula, Menard County, Illinois with a memorial maker.
