Sgt Robert S. Haws worked as a construction machinery operator.

He enlisted in Richmond, Virginia on 2 June 1941 and was sent overseas on 4 January 1944.

During his training period he was married to Myrtie Lee Argo.

He was initially buried at the cemetery of Wijlre on 18 September 1944. At that moment he was reported as missing in action. It took until May 1945 before the American Army discovered his burial place. He was disinterred and buried in a temporary grave at Margraten on 22 october 1945. After being disinterred a second time and after the cemetery was given a permanent status, he was given his final resting place on 15 July 1949.

A memorial plaque can be found on the spot where he was killed.
