2nd Lt Dean T. Lill graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas in 1943.

He was sent overseas in April 1944.

He was reported wounded in action in France in July 1944 and hospitalized for 6 weeks in England, returning to duty in October 1944. For this wound, Lt Lill was awarded his first Purple Heart Medal.
